Factory Farm
Many people may not understand exactly what a factory farm is, or may have a vague idea of what factory farming means. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a factory farm is
a large industrialized farm; especially : a farm on which large numbers of livestock are raised indoors in conditions intended to maximize production at minimal cost
The owners of these farms attempt to raise as many animals as possible in the smallest space possible. Because the companies raise a maximum number of animals on their farms, it will maximize production of meat and because they attempt to do it in the smallest amount of space possible, it will minimize cost. Doing this is most 'cost effective', and it wouldn't be 'cost effective' to give animals the space they deserve to be able to move. Large companies such as Tyson Foods were able to build up their companies large enough to be able to run the largest farms in the market, which can create many problems.
